Cleaning & Care

Cleaning and Caring

The kids, the dog, or a clumsy party guest - accidents happen. In fact, removal of spots and spills is one of the most crucial areas of rug maintenance. When anything is dropped or spilled, quick response with the right cleaning material can save the day...and your rug!

General Rug Care
Routine vacuuming without a beater bar is the key to maintaining the beauty of your rug by preventing the buildup of soil deep in its fibers. If you choose to use a professional cleaner for difficult stains, confirm that they are an area rug cleaning professional, since this requires a different process than cleaning wall to wall carpet.

To preserve the life of a rug for indoor use, we recommend using a rug pad. A rug pad provides extra cushioning underfoot, prevents the rug from slipping, and reduces wear and tear.

To prolong the life of your rug, we recommend rotating it to mitigate possible fading. Direct, constant sunlight will fade or discolor your rug.

Wool Rug
Our hand-tufted and hand-hooked, hand-knotted and hand woven wool rugs are both durable and easy to care for.

We recommend vacuuming regularly without using a beater bar (set your vacuum on "floor" setting.) Should long ends of yarn appear on the surface, do not pull. Use scissors to trim yarn evenly with rug surface.

All wool rugs will naturally shed and it can be expected for at least the first three months. Vacuum a new wool rug once or twice a week to reduce shedding. Set your vacuum on "floor" setting, turning the beater bar off. The beater bar can catch the end of the yarns and cause pulls.

Spot clean by mixing a solution of water and mild soap. With a clean white cloth, gently blot from the outside of the spill to the interior to prevent spreading. Blot up any residue with a clean cloth and allow area to air dry. Professional cleaning is recommended for tough stains.

Jute Rug
Jute is a very durable fiber that can withstand high traffic areas and has minimal shedding. They are hand-tufted with a latex backing and require the same care and cleaning as a wool rug. (See above)

Diamond Lattice Jute Rug

Indoor/Outdoor 100% Polypropylene Rug
Polypropylene rugs are durable, easy care and soft underfoot. Vacuum regularly on "floor" setting, and do not use a beater bar, which can catch the loops in the rug's pile. Should yarn ends appear on the surface of your rug, do not pull. Use scissors to trim yarn evenly with rug surface.

To remove dirt or spills, spot clean by mixing a solution of water and mild soap. With a clean white cloth, gently blot from the outside of the spill to the interior to prevent spreading. Rinse your rug with an outdoor hose when finished. Hang until thoroughly dry. Make sure both the rug and the area where it will be placed are fully dry before placing the rug.

Indoor/Outdoor Hand-woven Polyester Rug
These hand-woven rugs are made from 100% polyester yarn that has been made from recycled plastic bottles. They feel like wool and are extremely versatile and easy to care for whether indoors or outdoors. Vacuum the rug regularly on the lowest suction, typically the "floor" setting without a beater bar.

To remove dirt or spills, spot clean by mixing a solution of water and mild soap. With a clean white cloth, gently blot from the outside of the spill to the interior to prevent spreading. Rinse your rug with an outdoor hose when finished. Hang until thoroughly dry.

Make sure that both the rug and the surface where it will be placed are fully dry before putting it down. Do not use harsh chemicals.

If a loop is pulled by a pet, furniture leg, high heel, or vacuum suction, it will affect other loops in the same row. This is not a defect and you can gently pull the yarns in the row to return to the original position.

Bamboo Viscose or Wool Viscose Rug
Bamboo viscose rugs are more luxurious and are not intended for heavy traffic areas. Bamboo Viscose is easily saturated with dye, and produces wonderful vibrant colors. Because the fiber is so absorbent, it's especially important to act quickly when spills happen.

Vacuum regularly with your vacuum set to "floor" setting.

Clean spills immediately by blotting with a clean sponge or white cloth. Spot clean with minimal amount of water and mild soap solution. Blot firmly, but gently from outside to center of stain, avoiding scrubbing. Should long ends of yarn appear on surface, do not pull. Use scissors to trim yarn evenly with rug surface. Professional cleaning is recommended for tough stains.
